Assume every firearm is loaded.

Never point a firearm at anything you would not want to shoot.

Keep your finger off the trigger until you have made the conscious decision to shoot. 

Positively identify your target and your surroundings, what is near and behind.

AND Keep firearms locked away from unauthorized people including children or untrained adults, anyone using a controlled substance or mentally / emotionally unstable people.  Even if that person is you!
